PlantID Care Privacy Policy
The short version
PlantID Care has no accounts. You never create one, and we never ask for your name, your email address or a password. Your plant collection lives on your own device. A photo you take is sent to our service only to answer the question you asked about it, and it is not kept afterwards.
There is no account
There is no sign up, no sign in and no password anywhere in this app. We hold no profile for you, because there is nothing to hold one against.
Your plants stay on your device
The plants you save, their names, your photos of them, their care schedules and your progress are stored in the app's own storage on your phone. They are not uploaded to us and we cannot see them. Deleting the app removes them.
Because that data is local, it is not backed up by us. If you delete the app or lose the device, the collection is gone.
What happens to a photo
When you identify a plant or check its health, the photo is sent to our service, which passes it to the artificial-intelligence provider that does the recognition. The provider answers that one request. We do not write the photo to storage, and it is not used to build any profile of you.
No name, no contact detail and no location is attached to that request. The app does not ask for location permission at all, and there is no location code in it.
The rate-limit identifier
To stop one device from exhausting the free tier, our service keeps a counter. On the free tier that counter is keyed to a one-way hash of a device identifier, computed with a secret only we hold, so it cannot be reversed or matched against anything outside this service. If you subscribe, the counter is keyed to your subscription identifier instead. The counter records how many requests were made, not what was in them.
Analytics and error reporting
We use product analytics to see which features are used, and error reporting to find crashes. These receive events and diagnostics, never your photos and never the contents of your collection.
Subscriptions
Subscriptions are sold and processed by Apple through your App Store account, and managed on our side by our subscription provider. We receive your subscription status. We never see or handle your card details. Cancel or change a subscription in your App Store subscription settings; deleting the app does not cancel it.
Who we share with
We do not sell your data and we never share it for advertising. It goes only to the service providers that operate the app for us, and only to run it: our cloud host, the artificial-intelligence provider that performs recognition and generates care guidance, our subscription provider, and our analytics and error-reporting providers. We also disclose information where the law requires it.
Children
PlantID Care is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Since the app has no accounts and asks for no personal details, there is very little to collect from anyone.
Your choices
You can delete any plant from your collection inside the app, and deleting the app removes all of it at once. You can decline the artificial-intelligence consent prompt, which turns off the features that send a photo. You can opt out of analytics in Settings. If you want to ask us anything about your data, email us.
